Held in the town of Stanardsville, the Virginia Clay Festival
is an art show celebrating the creative possibilities of clay.
What is it about clay that grabs the heart and imagination of so many people? Perhaps it's the amazing transformation of a block of raw, muddy clay into something beautiful and functional...like a mug for your morning coffee. There is great satisfaction in welcoming a handcrafted object into your everyday life, especially when you have met the person who actually made it.
35 clay artists (potters, sculptors & jewelers) from across the state of Virginia will gather in Stanardsville for the 5th annual Virginia Clay Festival.
Come join us on September 21 & 22, 2019 to see their latest work, meet the artists and learn amazing tricks of the trade at the three demonstration areas.
Irish and Old Time bands fill the exhibit hall with foot tapping music both days of the festival.
Each year volunteers from Greene County and beyond help organize and run this fabulously fun festival. Thank you to all of them!
Greene County is in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a marvelous getaway with unique cottages, cabins, camping and hotels.
Oh, what a great time you'll have at the Virginia Clay Festival! Check out photos from years past.
On the second weekend in November, artisans in Central Virginia open their doors for you to explore their working spaces. In 2019 we offer 25 studios showing the work of 46 Virginia artisans to celebrate our 25th anniversary. What a great way to spend a fall weekend!
